Basic Information

DePaul University College of Law stands apart through its rigorous curriculum, commitment to public service, student diversity and distinguished alumni, Assistant Dean of Student Services Michael Burns said.

As a Catholic and Vincentian University’s law school, it is committed to social justice and public service. For example, in the Chiapas Human Rights Practicum, students travel to Chiapas, Mexico, where human rights leaders educate them on local issues there. A full 36 percent of DePaul students are enrolled in such externships.

“DePaul University College of Law is uniquely able to broaden and deepen our students’ perspectives through our range of distinctive and innovative programs taught by exceedingly accomplished and dedicated teachers,” said Dean Jennifer Rosato Perea. “Our university and Chicago communities provide a wide variety of opportunities for our students to learn through experiential and public service opportunities”

Just one block away from John Marshall Law, DePaul takes advantage of the talent in Chicago by supplementing full-time faculty with practicing lawyers and judges, who serve as adjunct professors and teach some upper-level and professional skills courses.

There also is a strong commitment to serving students of all cultures. DePaul has the 12th highest enrollment of Hispanic students of all law schools in the nation. It is known for its approachable faculty and supportive staff, and its extensive alumni network includes outstanding leaders and experts in all areas of the legal profession.
